This experience made me eager for more travel experiences!

I remember one of the reasons for choosing my studies, Communication and Media at Erasmus University, was the opportunity to go on exchange as part of the program. The first year went by so quick and in the second year the application process already started. London was the first choice on my List and a few months later I was holding a badge with this destination on it. After a long summer break the time was there, time to go to London Goldsmiths University!

My exchange in South-Korea, Seoul: a (foodies) dream come true.

Before even deciding where I wanted to go on exchange, I set myself a goal: to become a local in a city other than Rotterdam because I have never lived anywhere else. After setting that goal, I needed to figure out where I wanted to become a local, and this is where my passion played a large role: food. I let my passion for food choose where I would wanted to spend four months of my life in and that turned out to be South-Korea. Because of my (basic) knowledge about their famous dishes such as Korean BBQ, Bibimbap, and their famous street food, I became very intrigued to learn more about the Korean cuisine!

Alysa’s exchange to ‘The Little Red Dot’

Exchange, exchange, exchange — A much-awaited, five months in a faraway destination that have turned out to be a wonderful experience which I believe will be ever-impactful in my years to come.

Ever since I started my Communication and Media study at Erasmus University Rotterdam, I knew that I wanted to study abroad, preferably as far away as possible. Having grown up in both Europe and South America for large periods of my life, I was ready and eager to embark again on a new adventure, new challenges, and a new continent. And on the 29th of July 2018 this became a reality — I was headed for Singapore! (or colloquially known as ‘The Little Red Dot’ for its small size and for the way it is often depicted on a map haha) Continue reading

Continue reading

Tristan in Calgary, Canada

Exchange is a Life within the Life

When I first came to study in the Netherlands, my life there started from a new page. I didn’t speak the language, I didn’t know how to use public transport, I knew nothing about the city and I had no friends. Looking back, I realize I had felt like a child. Weeks before my exchange ended, some of my friends have already departed. I felt like an old man getting his things in order. But let’s start from the beginning. Continue reading

Anouck goes USA

Continue reading

Eline in Hawai

Teddy in Ozzy!

Hui Yat – An adventure of a lifetime

An adventure of a lifetime

It may sound like a cliché, but I can guarantee you: taking part in an exchange programme to submerse yourself in a totally different culture from your own is really a life-changing opportunity you could not afford to miss. After these six months living in the Netherlands and studying at Erasmus University Rotterdam, I find myself a more mature person: I am more confident in solving problems; I am more skilled in communicating with people; and I am more acceptant and open-minded to new things that come to me in life.

Holland has long been a country that I wish to visit. It is small but strong; it is ethnically diverse yet solid. It is the pioneer in same-sex marriage and the tolerated use of soft drugs. It is even a country that closes down prisons due to a low crime rate. It is simply impossible to list out all the characteristics of the Netherlands that fascinate me in one single article. These were basically the things on my mind when I was choosing the Netherlands as my exchange destination. As for today, I am very happy to say that the Netherlands has not been a disappointment at all. Though challenges do arise from time to time, this country keeps on surprising me with its beautiful culture and wonderful people.
